maps and icons
As part of the editorial staff of the Chicago Tribune, I created visual stories to support daily news. I worked with reporters to gather facts about a story and page designers to designate the appropriate amount of space.
Following the typographic and color style guidelines of the paper, I independently created graphics to visually present information in conjunction with the writing staff. This included composition/layout, icon design, concepting the most coherent way to present the information, and rapid development. In three to four hours, after completing the graphic, it made rounds throughout the newsroom for editors to provide feedback.
While maps were my favorite area of focus, my daily tasks included producing charts, graphs, illustrations, and diagrams to explain how things work.
